| | |  | Toxicity | Adverse effects include nausea, abdominal distension, and dizziness. Oral administration of large doses to monkeys may cause severe myocardial damage, decreasing the glycogen granules and producing swelling and vacuolar degeneration of muscle cells 1,2). Artemisinin may cause temporary reduction of reticuloendothelial cell count, and occasionally may also cause neurotoxicity 3). Pregnant women should avoid its use.
